Yeah, that just means I'll have tire tracks on my back when it runs me down.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I am so very close to unfriending someone on facebook. She's just posting all sorts of "I'm not a racist, but ..." type racist shit. Last week, she responded to a "Why do white people freak out if you call them racist?" article I posted by insisting, with a lot of exclamation points, that most white people aren't racist, and she's certainly not racist at all, and racism is horrible, and basically freaking out in exactly the way that the article described. Now she thinks that President Obama should talk more about his Caucasian background, as "the perfect route to understanding."

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

that just means I'll have tire tracks on my back when it runs me down.

Assuming you aren't one of the majority about whom it has been proven to be more effective to medicate the pain before it reaches full flower, unfortunately so. But I'd never recommend anyone gamble on it. If you know you're gonna have to take one within this active window, open the window from now.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

and basically freaking out in exactly the way that the article described.

Ahahahaha, I remember her.

Ahahahaha, I remember her.

Yeah. She's like 87 or something like that, and I've known her since I was a kid, and she was my French teacher for three years in middle school and high school, so I'm not totally comfortable confronting her on this stuff. So, I just unchecked the option for her posts to show up on my news feed. It's better for my blood pressure this way.

I did that to a friend's husband long ago. I figure I can get the baby pictures from other people!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Also, I just went back on eHarmony after finding out that an old friend just moved in with her boyfriend, and all of the potential matches are waaay in the suburbs. Good to know! (I didn't pay or anything, and now I don't have to.)

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Now she thinks that President Obama should talk more about his Caucasian background, as "the perfect route to understanding."

Understanding... what, exactly?

The Zimmerman verdict is just heartbreaking. As someone else said upthread: Wasn't Trayvon standing his ground too, against the creepy older guy following him? I understand that under current Florida law, the jury may well have felt that they had no choice but to reach the verdict they did, but THAT LAW IS INCREDIBLY FUCKED UP.

Yeah, here's the thing. If the black boy had had the gun, people would be saying, How could it be self-defense against an unarmed man?? How could he possibly have been in fear for his life?? I heard Zimmerman's brother on the radio this morning saying it was unfair to say Trayvon was "unarmed" because he was armed with the sidewalk.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

How could he possibly have been in fear for his life?? I heard Zimmerman's brother on the radio this morning saying it was unfair to say Trayvon was "unarmed" because he was armed with the sidewalk.

This part is just so ridiculous. Also, when police arrived, Trayvon was found dead on the grass, a good way from the sidewalk.
