From yesterday, I think, i would only say "take heed". "Pay heed" doesn't sound wrong from other people, but it would feel wrong coming from me. And I can't think of another way of using heed.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.
So this morning as I was out walking Charlie about 6:45, this fella came running up to us, and then followed us home, and then made it clear he wasn't leaving. He was clearly a sweetheart and seemed healthy, if hungry, so I spent the next couple of hours alternating getting ready for work (and passing all the work that came in to others) with playing ball in the backyard until Animal control could come get him.
Much better use of my morning than the firedrill I missed by not being in the office.
