"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

so, I am watching a SyFy movie called "Ice Spiders "

It is a very poor quality movie. Although I never though there would be a random skiing scene in the middle of creature horror flick.

Just so you have a taste of how bad the movie is: Stephen Cannell has a major role.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I just wrote a letter to the IO9 editor telling her I was sad that it seemed the tenor of the site was no longer as welcoming to fangirls as it used to be, now that they have a regular fanfic mockery article--not that there isn't fic that's fun to mock--just that when that's the only coverage you have, tearing apart something someone worked hard on with a heavy dose of sex shaming to boot...it no longer feels like a part of "real" sci fi/fantasy fandom that accepts these female-chosen ways of being fannish, and that's a big loss for me.

With the change to the commenting software the general mood of conversation has gotten meaner and emptier, and with this recent change in staff, they are losing the balance that initially attracted me. I know I'm not Denton's goal, but it was a nice fantasy to think Annalee could run her own corner of the Gawker network as she saw fit.

People keep saying "Don't they know they're being XYZ?" Oh, they're not stupid. They know. They might not know how much you care, but they know what they're doing. Tell them, not me.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

ita, why don't you email Annalee directly with your concerns? I'm sure she'd want to hear it.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

I could picture a cool-ass Halloween/Nightmare Before Christmas black tree.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Isn't either Annalee or Charlie Jane the editor at io9?

I have to go over to my folks' place and set up their Christmas tree, and I really don't want to. But my sister has done a lot of heavy lifting today, so it's my turn.

Bah.

Off we go to be a Good Daughter (tm).

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Yup, Hec. Annalee is the editor, and it's her I wrote. She's always been nice to me--we talked about Gus, and she even suggested I write pickup SPN recaps (although she should have asked someone to do that this week--the couple of paragraphs they substituted instead was annoying, considering Arrow and Vampire Diaries and EVERYTHING ELSE GENRE has a long review up inside of 24 hours, it seems. Doesn't have to be me, but it should be someone.)

The site is changing a lot--the new software has removed the trial period for new posters, so everyone who wants to piss in the pool can do so with a burner ID they never use again, and you can absolutely see the difference in the conversations. Reading articles is so much more irritating that I stay in the natter-equivalent most of the time (burners can't be assed to go back there, usually), but even so--their last two new hires have been...problematic.

One's an evo-psych advocate who wouldn't know the scientific method if it hypothesised his ass and reports on studies after reading nothing more than the abstract, displaying a disturbing lack of understanding of statistics, and Bricken who's snarkier than the usual tone, which is fine, but also spends thousands of words shitting on a piece of fanfic every week.

So stuff like debunking the North Korean unicorn story (translation issue, plus old news) and the feeling of a mainstream sff+science site that was sex positive and didn't belittle fangirl interests...fading in the rearview mirror. If that's either their motive or accepted collateral damage, well, I won't be the first commenter (by far) that they lose, but I don't want to be lost.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

I could picture a cool-ass Halloween/Nightmare Before Christmas black tree.

Somewhere on my tumblr I reblogged a photo of someone's white tree that was decorated entirely with NMBC toys. It was fantastic, and I want to do the same thing one of these years. Because we have a white artificial tree, and lots and lots of Nightmare Before Christmas toys.

But I don't know if we're putting a tree up this year. We didn't last year, because of brand new kittens of chaos, and this year they're just LARGER kittens of chaos.
