Natter 71: Someone is wrong on the Internet
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Wow, Suzi, your ex makes me want to kick him in the rear.
I just came back from my folks. Where things are... well, not good. Dad's sufficiently upset that he's staying out of the apartment, and he's taking a bus tour up to Martinez today. I'm going to bring him to my house for dinner and see if I can get him to sleep here (or at my sister's house where the spare beds are actually beds and not futons).
Did you have your interview yet, Consuela?
KCD keeps doing things that just underline all the reasons I divorced him. We had a Memorial Day BBQ at his place on Monday. His wife was a delight, great food, nice conversation, all that. KCD sat inside on his computer 90% of the time. Anyone that came to brunch at my place in Alameda can probably picture the position since it hasn't changed.
CJ fought back with him a bit today. Calling him out for why he never finishing college if education is so important and hasn't that hindered his job opportunities. College and high school are different kettles of fish and all that plus he was disrespectful the way he did it, but in my head, I was all "Go CJ".
In the elevator this morning, someone visiting from another office asked me if I was a coworker. I said yes and told her where to find breakfast, but considering that I was wearing a zombie T-shirt, wearing ridiculous sunglasses I purchased in Vegas, carrying a purple messenger bag, and holding an Android phone, I'm not entirely sure why she needed to ask.
I was that kid in middle school - it wasn't that I couldn't do the work, but I was lazy and took shortcuts and lost homework or forgot to turn it in all the time. I'm sure it was incredibly frustrating to my teachers and parents.
I hated showing my work, because the work I did din't match the work the teacher thought it should be, and I got the right answer anyway. Or I went about it backwards, picking a number that I thought would be right then plugging it into the formulas to see if would break down to match the question. Honestly, half the answers I got right on the math SAT were total guesses that happened to match one of the multiple choices.
"Show your work" made me crazy when I was little. I think I'm just lucky I realized that getting through school was about doing what they wanted.
Annoying: I got a call from a headhunter earlier, and she said she was sending me an email with more information. I have not gotten the email! When I called back, I got her voicemail and left my email again, and still nothing. I might be interested!
May I just say summer hours BLOW? I know these long hours will pay off in extra comp time, but HOLY GOD I AM AT WORK FOR SO MUCH TIME.
And truthfully, working 9-hour days does not result in more productivity. I run out of actual work after about 5 hours whether I'm here 9-5 or 9-6. It's just an extra hour of fucking-around-online time, which I could just as easily be doing at home!
We just had Panda Express for our weekly free lunch. It's terribly and greasy and salty and I LOVE IT. Plus we had fancy cake for dessert as the owner is moving to the Chicago office.
Yeah, we start summer hours on Monday. Having Fridays off is nice but having to be at work for another hour is no fun. (And having to take a bit of vacation daily because 1. buses don't run early enough to get me to work by 7:30 and b. I'm not sure I run early enough to be useful by 7:30.)
Oh shoot. Timesheet. Gotta get that done. KCD got me so freaking frazzled. Grrrrrr.
Since Lee hasn't asked - what are folks doing this weekend?
I'm babysitting tomorrow morning then working in the afternoon. Sunday, I'm meeting a friend for brunch at a place with an AMAZING Bloody Mary buffet and then going to a chalk art festival in downtown. And maybe a henna party if I'm not too tuckered. Oh, and more work where I can fit it in. Wheee?
