Yesterday one of my coworkers got clipped by a car (while crossing in the crosswalk with the light) right in front of the building on the way in. They thought she was just shaken up but the first responders took her to the hospital to be sure she was ok and she turned out to have a broken hip, and had surgery last night. She's a relatively frail 60ish, and I am really ticked at bad drivers right now.

Oh man, Matt! And she just drove away?? WTF.
To be fair I left the intersection first, glaring and muttering all the while, and didn't even realize I was bleeding til I got to my front door. I wouldn't classify it as a hit and run.
Matt, that's pretty scary, and I hope no further injuries appear.
Hubby has been known to take his cane to cars that bump him in crosswalks. And he carries metal canes. One jackass jumped out of his car to go after Hubby, and the cop who had just been pulling up said, "Don't make it worse, son." Jackass whirled in delight that the cop was going to go after this annoying man who had damaged his car after getting in his way by daring to walk on the streets, until he realized cop had his hand on his gun and was staring at the jackass. Hubby said--or snarled, actually--"I'd be thrilled to make a statement, officr," and the cop said, "No, I was right behind him, I saw the whole thing. I just need your name."
Idiot drivers.
Speaking of, I just took some ibuprofen because my knee was aching--because of the accident 22 years ago when I was hit by a car while in a crosswalk with a walk signal. (The driver was making a left turn and wasn't wearing her glasses.)
My first accident ("accident") was someone rolling back into my SO NEW CAR with their EVEN NEWER BIGGER CAR, and he was pissed at me that I got insurance involved.
Two weeks into my first car? Yeah, I followed rules. Fuck off.
Yikes, Matt!
chromebook pixel, shrift? Is this work provided?
Yes, but now that I have one for work I'm becoming more convinced that the price tag isn't totally ridonk and prohibitive.
Take some ibuprofen, Matt. I'm glad you're okay.
Finished the preemie trilogy. Oof. It's an odd testament to what Kat shared that it wasn't new to me, but it brought back how harrowing that time with the twins was, and I was a distant friend. And how glad I am of them. Noah went home on my birthday, best present ever.
Y'all, I have a rat. Outside. I'd seen it in the last couple of weeks, alway running back to my neighbor's ivy jungle after sipping from the puddle that forms after a heavy rain on my walk. I'd thought it a field mouse, but it's bigger now and definitely a rat, though not the monstrous species that I've seen around. Fine. Not great, but HIS yard, I mentioned it to him. This afternoon, I pulled up and it is gambolling along my front walk and yard and just cocks its head when I open my car door. Cute, but oh the hells no. I approach, it runs into a crack under my steps (hollow under there ) and peeks out at me, whiskers aquiver. NOT ON. It is due to rain, but I'm making a cat pee litter sachet to put in front of the crack. I brushed Loki and stuffed the fur into the crack.
We will always have rats. I actually don't begrudge them, think many are kinda cute, but the population needs to be controlled and kept out of homes and burrowing in yards. I don't want to encourage them living under my front steps! And with as many free-roaming cats in the hood (clearly FALLING DOWN ON THE JOB!) I don't dare use poison. Plus, cute.
Matt, yikes! Glad you're all right! What an idiot.
Man, that micropreemie story is just amazing.
I read all three just now. I couldn't help weeping. It is an amazing story, and she's a really good writer.
