What I should have done is order her to pull over when the light turned green and called the police - it's just blind luck that she didn't run someone over. (That crosswalk is between a parking lot and a block with several bars and restaurants, so there is *always* foot traffic.) But I was too rattled to do anything except wave my arms and swear at her.

Shit, Matt! I'm glad you're mostly okay!
Glad you are ok,if shaken, Matt
Sorry to hear about uncle bud.
I really like the RadioLab format, but my sister hates it.
But I am running out of podcasts since I started listening to them while turning weekly forecasts into monthly.
-t, I like "Stuff You Should Know" and "Stuff You Missed in History Class"; also "To the Best of Our Knowledge" and "A History of the World in 100 Objects". There's also a bunch of history podcasts like the history of the Byzantine empire and stuff like that.
Fictionally, I listen to a ton of audiobooks and if you're interested, I can hook you up with some next time we meet. Also there's Librivox, which is free audiobooks of books in the public domain, recorded by volunteers. Some of the readers are really good (and some aren't, so it's kind of a crapshoot).
Yikes, Matt! Glad you're okay!
Christ, some people are extremely stupid in their cars.
I remember coming up on a stop sign and the person stopped at it decided to roll in reverse. I of course froze in a panic in my car as they wailed into me. And that actually wasn't the first time someone decided to fling into reverse and jam on the gas (the first one was the military chaplain, who never did pay me back for my headlight).
Glad you're relatively alright, Matt.
Oh man, Matt! And she just drove away?? WTF.
Yikes, Matt! Glad you weren't badly hurt!
Post marked, Consuela. TTBOOK is one of my standards, I'm betting some of those history 'casts will fill the bill. Audiobooks almost have to be something I've already read to be listen-while-I-do-something-else fodder, but that could work. I would love some kind of subliminal learning thing that would just drone in my ears without me really paying attention and eventually I could speak Italian or something, but that probably does not actually exist.
Yesterday one of my coworkers got clipped by a car (while crossing in the crosswalk with the light) right in front of the building on the way in. They thought she was just shaken up but the first responders took her to the hospital to be sure she was ok and she turned out to have a broken hip, and had surgery last night. She's a relatively frail 60ish, and I am really ticked at bad drivers right now.
Oh man, Matt! And she just drove away?? WTF.
To be fair I left the intersection first, glaring and muttering all the while, and didn't even realize I was bleeding til I got to my front door. I wouldn't classify it as a hit and run.
