Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Where is everyone??? I went for lunch long enough to eat away from my desk again. That's twice in a week. I don't usually make it twice in a month. But that red snapper special looked Especial, and that would be rude to eat at my desk. So I sat on the patio, read a Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist fusion fic, and just chilled. Felt marvellous.

Four people mugged me for information before I got back to my keyboard.

Expectations.

Still, I did step up for a new piece of subject matter expertise, so even though it's not the thing to get our project restarted, it will hopefully speed up other processes by circumventing the humans. And sometimes when you ask someone you rarely work with how their stuff works, they get really excited about teaching you.

Maybe I'll make a goal--by the end of the year, carefully assess standing in each director's office asking to learn something about their suite of solutions. Maybe all of them won't have something for me, but I will consider each explicitly.

I like the aural weirdness most of the time. I find it soothing.

I've done lawn taming for the last two days. I am sore and no longer embarrassed about the lawn weeds rippling in the wind. And I no longer expect the lawn police at my door. Last season I (stupidly) paid for cutting -- not a stupid idea in general, just for me in terms of wasted money given that the front and back lawns are manageable. I had no lawn confidence in myself. Now I do.

Lisa, I'm so sorry about Uncle Bud.

Man, that micropreemie story is just amazing. I haven't listened to the Radiolab piece but I read all three parts of the story from the Tampa Bay Times at my desk this morning and nearly lost it more than once. It's written by the mother, and she is, incidentally, a wonderful writer. It's a very moving, thoughtful piece.

AGREED. Granted, this is a particularly salient piece for me. I just thought it was so well written.

The comments make this twice (twenty!) times as hysterical: [link] but I don't know if it's GOOD, exactly.

This is good stuff for sure, though: [link]

This is a bit political, but amuses the FUCK out of me: [link]

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Dammit. Some brain-dead soccer mom overshot a crosswalk and then decided to throw it into reverse without looking as I was crossing behind her and hit me. Thankfully I got an arm up and it only knocked me back and bloodied some knuckles rather than getting a body hit in on me, but I am PISSED.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Jeebus, Matt. The protocol for getting hit is to fling yourself on the ground and roll around like the dying chipmunk and then sue for damages, right?

I'm glad you only got bloody knuckles, but stupidity at the wheel should come at a price.

What I should have done is order her to pull over when the light turned green and called the police - it's just blind luck that she didn't run someone over. (That crosswalk is between a parking lot and a block with several bars and restaurants, so there is *always* foot traffic.) But I was too rattled to do anything except wave my arms and swear at her.
