I echo Connie's remark about renter's insurance. I just sent the renewal check in last Friday.
After the house next door burned...and Bartleby and I were totally and completely fine...the shock and anticipatory fear was just too much for me.
I pay $162 dollars per year for $60,000 worth of coverage.
Please God, I should never have to use it, but my piece of mind is SO worth it.
I just purchased renter's insurance.
I've got $10,000 worth of coverage, mostly thinking of medical equipment--CPAP machines are fucking expensive, plus there's all Hubby's braces etc.--and the computers. Maybe I should change that to cover cleaning charges.
Frank, what a horrible thing to experience, I hope things fall into place for you and that you are able to line up permanent residence and that you can get help moving. I know so well how hellish that is when it's a choice.
My coverage extends over all material possessions, with an extra rider for technology, clean up, etc.
Remember to check that your insurance covers replacement costs, not what it is worth at the time of the loss!
