"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I used to tease my dad that the reason that I wasn't married was because I was looking for someone as good as he was. It's one of my few regrets with regard to my dad, that he didn't get to walk me down the aisle. But, I also know that he wouldn't have wanted to get married for anything other than being in love.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

For people who have normal relationships with sugar, which of the unsweetened True products would be the best one to buy and leave in the office kitchen? I like 'em all, and my entry vector was Lemon. Should I do that one?

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

My father could talk a blue streak, but he didn't really chat up strangers. My mother will talk at length with any stranger, any place and at any time.

This is my folks too. Mom was joking around with the people in the ER when she was hospitalized for pancreatitis. Though once she settled into her room and the adrenaline wore off, she only wanted me and one niece around her, as she doesn't feel the need to be "on" around us when she's feeling weak and sick.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

My mum apparently had pancreantitis and was hospitalized and nobody called me.

The fuck, family?! Will I find out she died by making my weekly phone call only to find out that she can't answer the phone because she's dead?!

I swear, the men in my family are spacier than I am, and that's saying a lot.

My family totally does this. I'll be talking to my mom and she'll mention it in passing, as a reference to something else. Like, "Oh we finally went to the new Thai place for dinner. Let's see, when did we go? Oh, I think it was the day your uncle had his chemotherapy. The curry was fantastic."

And that will be the first I've heard my uncle has cancer. Because that's how my family rolls.

Good news, Dana!

And ita ! OMG I cannot imagine. I cross my fingers for you.

Juliebird, I know it must be frustrating, but I admit I rather wish I knew much less than I do about my mother's medical situation. I took my mother to the neurologist today, where he said that one or more of three things might be happening, but there wasn't really a treatment that she was appropriate for, so there was no real point in investigating further. That was fun.

I also learned that she told the new psychiatrist that all of her children were adopted. And today she told the neuro that Reagan was president. And she refuses to allow the caregiver to shower her, my dad thinks because the caregiver is black. So now I get the really fun experience of asking the agency to find a white caregiver for one shift, to see if that makes a difference. She apparently announced last week that the caregiver didn't need to shower her because her daughters would do it.

... yeah.

So at least I made up for it by spending all the rest of the work day at a barbecue in the sun, playing frisbee one-handed (the other hand held the beer) and watching my coworkers play a relatively unembarrassing volleyball game. And now I'm a bit sunburned and sleepy, because beer in the sun will do that to me.

Found another job to apply to, and tomorrow I have another interview. Woohoo.

ita ! do you find the orange is sweeter, or less acidic than the grapefruit?

I'm going sugar free and the grapefruit is a bit too strong for me right now.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

IF you ask my father, he'll tell you he doesn't get told stuff. Like, that's Ann's girlfriend? Yes, Daddy. The woman we call her partner who travels with her and shares a bed with her when they stay at your house, that's her girlfriend--the same woman who's on her arm at every function.

But no one said she was her girlfriend. We're just relieved he knew the aunt was gay. We had to give him a rundown of the younger generation's queerness, because he was taken by surprise by the last wedding.

Where can I find a good resource for mod and rocker fashion?

I've never tried the grapefruit--it's not a flavour I enjoy, sorry.
