msbelle, congratulations! This is wonderful news.
When I was in Peru a guide told us that Brazil nuts got marketed that way instead of "Peru Nuts" because someone deemed it "sexier". Pretty easy to buy that.
They showed us husks on the ground and told us how they're harvested -- they're wild grown and generally not in groves. Dudes hike into the jungle (as they did with their fathers and their fathers before them) to their known trees, whack open the coconut-like outer shell which is filled with about two dozen of the nuts, and dump said nuts into gigantic sack. When the sacks are full, they go home. It's like a vegetarian hunting party.
Those were the most delicious freakin' Brazil nuts I ever had in my life, btw. I'm convinced freshness is a factor and the ones we get 'round here are old as dirt.
So in New York, instead of dogs being the new babies, babies are the new dogs?
According to emergency.mit.edu, shots have been fired in a very prominant MIT building. Atlantic Wire reports that there's an officer down and the gun person is on the loose.
This week, man. Too much!
But yay for the new job, msbelle! So nice to hear good news.
I couldn't sleep and got up early and now I WANT MORE NEWS FROM BOSTON. I hope they can get the second suspect without any further loss of life.
Jesus, I woke up just as news this morning of suspect 1 dead, carjacking, Watertown...well, I'm still processing. Jesse, vw, Allyson's people, whoever, stay home!
My office is closed, and the City of Cambridge woke me up to tell me to stay inside. Jesus. I said last night I didn't want to go to work, but this was NOT what I meant. (Also, personal crisis: I only have two cigarettes in the house! I want them both right now.)
The AP just said the were Chechens! WTFF.
Yeah, the name of the deceased suspect has been released.
Chechnya? I would not have guessed that in the US. Of course, it might not be all nationalism-crazy, just plain crazy.
I love NPR for many things. Breaking news is not one of them.
