That might be what 24-hours news cycle means, but isn't it exactly what internet news cycle doesn't mean? It seems pretty rare to wait it out in preference to being first--the level of surety-to-publish has slunk lower and lower.
True, the internet doesn't help either, although I don't think it's fair that the first thing when the pros screw up is to be all "Fricking bloggers," as if bloggers are the ones that are supposed to study ethics every semester.
