not your mom's socks.

Juliebird - what Theodosia said.

So yesterday, at the coffee shop: filled tables, lots of loud talkers, a tutor helping high school kids with calculus, etc. This guy starts watching youtube videos with no headphones and it's just tinny enough to be really annoying. And then the youtube video cursing starts and the tutor looks really uncomfortable because youtube guy was sitting back to back with her student.

I had two pairs of headphones in my bag, so I got up and offered the guy a pair, to keep. Naturally he went full neanderthal on me and I felt horrible for getting involved. He eventually stopped watching the vid and proceeded to glare at me and sigh instead. He left, finally. And I got back to work. I'd had three cups of coffee and a lara bar to eat all day. At 3, when I packed up to go, I pulled my headphones from the laptop jack ....

AND BLASTED THE COFFEESHOP WITH MUSIC.

I should carry a paper bag mask with me wherever I go.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I am super happy to have today off. Maybe I'll get something done? We'll see!

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I'm mildly put out that the library isn't open because of said holiday, but I'll get over it.

I hear that.

I wish I had a holiday today, since I got nothing done yesterday but finishing my book-club book. Mostly because I was recovering from the urgh on Saturday night. But I really should have made the effort to vacuum, at least.

And I woke up this morning to a very strong smell of dog poop. Turns out (cut for ickiness) my dog ate some old poop in the yard last night, and then vomited it up in two places in the front bedroom this morning. The whole house stinks.

Off to a great start for the week, wahoo. But I am having lunch with some potential employers on Friday, so that's something.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Consuela, that's worthy of a dog-shaming photo.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Julie,

um, they impound your car for an expired reg? Did I miss this shit or just forget? I had no idea! That seems like a harsh penalty.

Sorry for your troubles and may things go smoothly tomorrow.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

um, they impound your car for an expired reg?

Yeah, that happened to me once. I don't think they have to but they certainly can make the argument that the car is not street legal.

When I got ticketed by a CHP for an expired reg he noted that some of his cohorts just loved taking the car away there on the spot, so I should just get it taken care of as soon as possible.

My oldest brother worked as a manager at a TGIF in Boston for a couple of years back in the late 80s, and the parking situation there was so bad, that he would just park on the street and get tickets every night because none of the paid lots would stay open until he closed the restaurant at 2AM. (Nor did the T run that late, I don't think.)

Anyway, he ran up something like $1500 in unpaid parking tickets, and got himself booted. The car was off the street for a couple of months, and he was reduced to riding a hot pink bicycle (it was on discount) to work while he paid off the fines. It was pretty ridiculous.

Now, he's a hotshot Chicago restaurateur and nobody gives a shit about his parking tickets. Shit happens, and even if it's stupid, it happens to everybody.
