We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Think about how far you've come; how impossible it seemed that you would get to this point. And now here you are.

Thank you, Liese.

And thank you all! It's actually made a real difference being able to talk about this with y'all, and hearing that I'm not being a Bad Daughter for pursuing this, and that it's okay to be frustrated and angry and guilty.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

I was supposed to take the kids to Republic of Pie and the science museum but there was a screw in the tire so we have to wait forever for the tire to be done.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I don't think this is actually true. On that PBS show with Henry Louis Gates looking at African American genealogy, practically everyone he talked to claimed, "My grandmother said that her grandmother was Cherokee" or something like that, but the DNA tests didn't bear it out at all.

Yup, that's what this article says.

I got up, fed and aired the pups and then cuddled with the cats on the couch. Things that need to happen this weekend: leaves, housecleaning, nails. And of course swimming. First 2 miles in 3 weeks, aiieeee. I think leaves are getting put off for tomorrow. But the vacuum and the clouds of cathair and leaves that have snuck in are taunting me.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

At work all day, then getting my nails did. I'll be cleaning the house tonight, as the in-laws are stopping by tomorrow. Then, heavenly leftover turkey for dinner!!!!

Not sure what I'm doing today. What I should do: clean. What I will likely do: watch TV. I would LIKE to go shopping, except that I want to just go regular-day shopping, not black-Friday-shopping, so I will probably avoid.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

practically everyone he talked to claimed, "My grandmother said that her grandmother was Cherokee"

There's an excerpt on the subject from Vine Deloria's Custer Died for Your Sins: An Indian Manifesto in this [link] As I recall, Deloria also does an estimate of the ridiculous millions of Indians there had to be to produce all these Indian descendants.

I have no legends of Indian ancestors in my family, but there is the one about a princess who ran off with a coachman.

Yeah, no Indian princesses in my family history, just melancholic Danes and backwoods tavern-owners.

Catching up on Good Wife, and eating pie. Nom.

Always Anti-fascist!

No princesses...could be a shaman. Although my grandfather said everybody said that, too.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I have one! Not a princess, but supposedly my ancestor was the first Frenchman to actually marry an Indian woman. Which is at least historically possible.

Had a very nice time shopping and lunching with my mom! Bought a couple of things and got some additional ideas, so that was good.
