Random question: we found a driver's license in our front yard this morning -- what should we do? It doesn't expire until 2016. Ohio's licenses have the person's address on them, so we could put it in the mail, BUT that assumes that (1) the person hasn't moved and (2) it's not a fake.
Any ideas? We might wait until Monday and call the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
How did someone's driver's license get in your front yard, anyway? Someone trespassing and emptying his wallet on the way across your lawn? Normally I'd just mail a lost license back, but that's odd enough I might wait and call.

In my neighborhood, it's best not to ask. Probably someone stumbling around drunk and stuff fell out of his pockets when he was digging for keys or a smoke.
Now that I bothered to google it, the answers are coming back as: (1) take it to the police or (2) take it to the BMV.
I'd put it in the mail. If the person has moved, hopefully they've filled out a change of address with the post office. And whether it's fake doesn't seem like it should be your concern.

I don't want to encourage crime, though!
...is that naive?
If the address is near you I'd drop it at either the police station or the DMV (whichever more convenient), if it is further away I would mail it. Only because I have lost my license and it is a pain to get it replaced.
Do you have reason to suspect it's fake? I'm assuming that the odds that you would be returning a legit license to its proper owner are higher than that you would be encouraging crime, using that letting x guilty go free rather than imprisoning y innocent principle, you know?
I've gotten previous residents' DL in the mail, because CA doesn't issue updated licenses. Does OH?
Taking a break though because I just shocked myself changing out a light fixture... The arm tingles a bit, so I am taking a break. maybe wine.
Do you have any sports drinks? Something with electrolytes?
I got a wallet minus cash but plus license back in the mail once. Someone had found it in the trash.
