Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Yay Nilly! Yay NillyBaby and toddler!
Hooray Nilly Baby!!!
Yay Nilly! Congrats on the new NillyBaby!
ION, who would win in a fight? Pavlov's dog or Schrodinger's cat?
Schrodinger's cat, definitely. He'd have Pavlov's dog all conditioned to respond to him, and then he'd not exist! The dog would just be so baffled.
Ahaha! Oh, I love you people.
And hey, new Nillybaby! Today is a good day.
Congratulations, Nilly and family!
Also, I am convinced that networking is never a bad thing.
This. I learned this when I had just started a new job with a start-up. I was happy in my new role and had gotten a nice pay bump, so I was all set. At about the 3 month mark, I got a call for an interview with a company I'd talked to previously. At first I was going to decline and thank them, but something in me said, "Just go ahead and interview. It never hurts to make connections." So I did. Then the start-up started making noises about possibly going under. I got the other job and left a month before the start-up went belly up. And? I've been there for almost 13 years! You just never know... Now I always interview if I get approached, which I sometimes do via Linked In.
Rice Krispies: Another networking story - I got my first big post-college job through my hair dresser at the time! I mentioned I wanted to be an editor and she said she did the hair for someone who worked on children's books. Turned out she was an Editorial Director at McGraw-Hill! I interviewed with her and got the job, which I loved. Only left it due to low pay and glass ceiling. Networking. I love it!
Congratulations to the NillyFamily!!
Yay Nilly and new baby! Congratulations to everyone!
Yeah, I'm going to this reception tomorrow basically to network. I'm not great at that stuff--like a lot of American women, I'm not trained to puff myself up--but I do like talking about my job.
ION, I'm reading this Time story about healthcare costs in the US, and it's just astonishing: [link]
