Rice Krispies: Another networking story - I got my first big post-college job through my hair dresser at the time! I mentioned I wanted to be an editor and she said she did the hair for someone who worked on children's books. Turned out she was an Editorial Director at McGraw-Hill! I interviewed with her and got the job, which I loved. Only left it due to low pay and glass ceiling. Networking. I love it!

Congratulations to the NillyFamily!!
Yay Nilly and new baby! Congratulations to everyone!
Yeah, I'm going to this reception tomorrow basically to network. I'm not great at that stuff--like a lot of American women, I'm not trained to puff myself up--but I do like talking about my job.
ION, I'm reading this Time story about healthcare costs in the US, and it's just astonishing: [link]
Today is CLEAN OFF MY DESK DAY! I want to get some old lingerring stuff out and done this week while my boss is out. Then: update my job description with what I really do, make dividers for my processes of regular admin duties binder, scan in a pile of business cards for my boss, and go through all emails printing out things to CYA/show praise from others/document lack of communication. Good times.
That was one of my takeaways from hanging out with the denominational bigshot recently. He never stops working. There was not a moment when he wasn't talking to people, cultivating relationships, finding out information. When he wasn't familiar with something, he asked. When there was someone he didn't know, he introduced himself. His small talk all meant something.
I am finally learning about how to do it, but it is still damn scary to me. I did much better with these last two events, both with collecting business cards and with following up on those contacts. Not that any of this is me looking for a job, of course!
I need a clean off my desk day. And since is another waiting for deliveries day, it's a good day to do it. But seeing as how the largest item on my desk is currently the NAS, I probably should start with that.
Only I probably should start with changing out of my fleece pjs. I'm pretty sure that's not the best clothing for working with electronics.
YAY Nilly and welcome Little Miss.
Last week I posted about how CO was threatening to take away my drivers license due to a 4.5 year old problem in CA that I knew nothing about. I paid the fine last Thursday and pulled my CA driving record this morning and it is all clear. The letter from CO made it sound like I had to jump through hoops to prove this to CO to keep my license. I called the CO DMV to make sure I had the right paperwork before I went into the office. She was able to look in the national database and see that it was cleared and said I didn't have to do a thing more. I sure hope she is right! Major weight off my shoulders.
Awesome, Suzi! DMV, I take back every mean thing I said.
I'm now editing SEO content ... about writing SEO content. I'm all meta'd out.
Yay Nilly, and little baby girl Nilly.
CO DMV has been so much better than CA DMV, with the exception of this letter. I need to go an ends my registration.
