My guess is that raisin pies started being called funeral pies because they could be made at short notice.
Ginger, that makes so much sense. And I would never have thought of raisins as a primary pie filling- I don't think I'd have bought it as raisin pie. But it really is reconstituted raisins, and it was delicious. The context makes it even better.
It's 3:30 pm and I've been out wandering around Cairns since about8:30. Met up with the family, the boys had been in the lagoon since 9:30ish. Ate some Vietnamese spring rolls, had a cider ( I swear, I just eat and booze my way through trips) as I watched them, bought some original aboriginal art and a few other things. Probably jump in the pool with the boys for a bit. Family will do a fairly early dinner, given the taxi picks us up at 5 am, but I think I might tell sleep to go to hell and go talk to strangers.
You can sleep when you're dead on the way home.
SIL just suggested I pick someone up to keep me awake until 4 am. Choked back laughter. I think a twofer is a little ambitious. She still has no idea.
What kind of dog weighs 250 pounds?!?
Big slobbery mastiff named Leah.
Oh dear. That's not going to give me a complex at all.
Neither suprings no important enough to stay twice.
So I guess my cat wakes me up based on time in bed, not time of day. I did not need to get up at 6:30, even though that was technically enough sleep.
I had a hearty breakfast, am watching a little tv, and getting geared up to put together my new coffee table.
Have we seen the livestreaming kittens this morning?

I am awake but probably not for much longer. The most exciting but tonight was either the spoonbills or the tide coming in. Downtown Cairns on a Friday night is not my scene. Quiet little wine bars are. And apparently roadhouses in the outback. They actually do share some traits. In my head anyway.
Eh, it was a lot of walking and people watching, I'm glad I went out.
