Mal: You tell me right now, little Kaylee, you really think you can do this? Kaylee: Sure. Yeah. I think so. 'Sides, if I mess up, not like you'll be able to yell at me.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

God, this movie is depressing. One of those verite efforts where no one who's nice is happy or vice versa. I am totally in support of teen abstinence, now. Makes perfect sense. Sure, it's impossible, but that doesn't mean it's not a good idea. You should just be handed all the masturbation material you need and then sexually walled off from anyone you're attracted to until hormones are no longer surprising you.

Tell me you are not still watching that Selena Gomez movie.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

So I am having Arduino problems and the Arduino web page is down.

C'mon, it's Saturday night! Don't they know a lot of us geeks are sitting at home programming our lasers?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

the episode furthers "Scandal" as an entry into the area of Science Fiction. Without mentioning specifics for those who don't want to be spoiled, there is a character who sustained a severe head injury. 10 months after such head injury would not even be close to the amount of time the person could fully recover - even if that were possible.

Well, that, sure. But that just seems like regular tv stuff.

So I saw this pattern in a pane in the french door and was all oh my god. My window is so filthy. And I'm such a catlady, cause I see a cat in it!

And as I'm musing on pattern recognition, it moves and I pratically jump out of my skin.

It was a gray cat staring in the window at us. Pretty sure I know which one too.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Head injuries are pretty whack to begin with - they can go a lot of different ways.

But the column I was reading he's being solicited for advice by women too, and I guess I just don't know how he got to the position he's in to be giving advice to women, straight or not, then.

I think you have to take the long view to get it. Back when he was making his name, it's not like there were a ton of places for frank sex advice. His column would run in the back pages of those free weekly papers you see around, and it was pretty groundbreaking to see that kind of shit in print. Also, the quoted bits are things that came up in columns over a long span of years, not week to week.

[That's meant as explanation of why it might not register with a lot of people, not in a "don't beat up on the guy just because of a few bad posts".] It feels to me like he's gotten a lot worse on this shit, personally, but that might just be that there's more daylight on it the past couple of years. It seems like his animus to women and a few other groups is a lot more pronounced, but it might just be that over time he gets more ropes with which to hang that just hadn't come up before.

Eta: he was always an asshole and a bit of a bully, I mean, but it read more like stchick than it does anymore.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

I watched an episode of Scandal last night. I was all, "Are you allowed to stab a guy in the neck with scissors on network TV?

"already on the kiss-cam with Karl Marx"-

I think he's surprised that people are beginning to...look to him. Maybe kind of as a role model or at least, as a source of responsible advice. As opposed to funny man wrapped around the personals. I know I would be.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Don't they know a lot of us geeks are sitting at home programming our lasers?

It attaches to the shark's head.

Totally unrelatedly, I apparently dress like Liese, and I think that's frickin' awesome.

Today's been a day full of awesomeness. In addition to gym time, grocery time, semi-cleaning time and getting my eyebrows done (a record of 157 tweezes this time!), I also had lunch with Cass and kristin and Noise Design.

Now, I'm ready for sleeping.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Tell me you are not still watching that Selena Gomez movie.

Ha! No, not at all. About a 180, for the same age range--Pariah is about a teenaged butch black lesbian who's struggling with identity and coming out and finding someone to love. The acting is good, the direction/camerawork a bit cliche, but maybe that's more that it's a code for authenticity, but it's one of those movies that, no matter how it ends, I am thinking "no, not the right choice for a slow Saturday afternoon."

The Selena Gomez movie was *exactly* the sort of movie everyone has seen a hundred times, like a Lifetime version of any given movie where an American teen ends up dealing/living with rich people in Europe, with added Freaky Friday elements. The sort of movie that makes you depressed for completely different reasons.

he was always an asshole and a bit of a bully

I do know enough about him to find this ironic.

it's not like there were a ton of places for frank sex advice

Where do people go for this these days? I remember Jez running a mother/daughter sex advice column, but that was a ways back. And I'm blanking on the name of the chick I've seen doing it on...youtube and Tumblr? But I think she's more education than answering questions, and also, could I come up with less identifying information?

When did Dan make it big, and whose banner was he publishing under at the time?
