This is a touching post on how Abed can mean so much to an autistic viewer.
I don't like the show, but is it fair to criticise Bones' portrayal of autism when they refuse to use the term? Who was autistic on House? How badly was that done? One of the commenters brings up Parker as autistic, but I did think that John refuses to diagnose her with anything.
Which has got to be really frustrating, but in at least his case it's because he doesn't want the requirement of sticking to a diagnosis instead of sticking to a plot. I'd also imagine that the responsibility would be something that many shows don't even want to dip into.
I'm trying to think of characters I've seen diagnosed in the narrative--the kid from Touch is a horrible cliche, but the kid in Alphas is a complete delight. I don't know if either of them are accurate, though.
And I am totally tumblring the piece of fanart in the middle of it for totally obvious and unrelated reasons.

It is pretty much as disgusting as you'd imagine. What security do we have in a world where parboiling doesn't prevent you from having tiny squidicles burrow into your face?
I suppose one could say that's what you get for fucking with a cephalopod!
One of the sons on Parenthood is autistic, and it's often dealt with.
Parenthood. That's the show I don't watch that I was trying to remember. Part of the importance of Abed to the person touched was that he didn't have a very special episode (up until late last season), and they do seem to have given up on him in Harmon's upcoming absence, which...why not wait around and see first? The man's ridiculously talented and innovative, but it could still be a good show.
My boss just informed me that he's adding "Beetlejuice" to my name in our bug-tracking database. I win? I'm not even wearing a stripey blazer today.
God, I'm so revolted.
You know the story of the Feminist Frequency Kickstarter project, and how she's been so badly trolled by 4chan? Well, I know her a bit (she's a friend of Laura Shapiro's, and we all went to see The Avengers together), and it's been really horrifying to see what people are saying about her.
Of course, it's horrifying because I'm reading the comments. ARGH. So many straw feminists, so many brains locked in the 16th century, so many anti-semitic comments (even though she's Armenian, not Jewish), so many slanderous comments about how she's going to buy new kitchen cabinets with the money. SO GROSS.
I feel dirty. And enraged. And a little bit hopeful, because her original goal was $6K, and she's raised $120K from people horrified at the vileness of the response.
Also, in window-shopping news: I wonder if I'd be able to gather this skirt up with dress clips or something to make it knee-length sometimes. [link]
Of course, I could also just email Kambriel and ask her how much it would cost to make me a knee-length version of the skirt. She's gotten sillier requests from me in the past.
Lee really goes above and beyond in wishing people luck.
OOPS!
