Could just be a hoax, though. I fake some headaches, everyone gets used to poor helpless Spike. Then one day, no warning, I snap a spine, bend a head back, drain 'em dry. Brilliant.

Besides, it has a basketball court and a commercial kitchen!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Man, season finales this week are severely OTT. I'm getting scared about Friday.

I know IO9 gets some flack around her for various things, including editorial polish, but I may have the opportunity to write for them in the upcoming year, so I really hope the commenting software change doesn't bung stuff up. I think Gawker is rebounding--they actually made some of the tweaks the posters suggested.

I know I can get an inflated sense of "I know web communities" since it's not like I have any experience in maintaining a for-profit site. But I still think that some of the lessons we learnt here with a crowdfunded site apply even if you are trying to make a profit. Some of the things everyone in the development chain seemed to have overlooked were staggering.

I'm having extreme resource frustration. The primary developer on the systems I support is back in India, and will be leaving completely in a couple weeks. In the meanwhile, there's no one trained to do what he did, and he's being difficult to pin down remotely, manifesting a severe case of Short-timer's.

I have someone saying "Can I get back to you tomorrow with the instructions for the change that's scheduled for today?" or another developer sending emails to the *users* using citing her "super duper lack of knowledge :)". I am beginning to froth about the use of smiley faces in business emails, especially ones being sent outside the team.

Also: super fucking duper? Yeah, I make a point of not being shy to ask for information I don't have, and don't make a big front of knowing everything when I don't, but that has to be balanced with making sure people have a good impression of you, and feel that you can be relied upon. Tell *me* about your super duper stupidness, not them. They're already pulling me aside to ask if it's all going to be okay.

LeN, I am very glad that it's "morning glory muffins" that's, ah, tainted with the imagery it is, and not the actual morningstar ones I love so much. I'd hate to be reminded of cunnilingus every time I have a tasty breakfast.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Wow, housing prices in NYC are Too Damn High. The price of that compound would barely buy a 3-br apartment in most neighborhoods.

That's really cool, ita.

I wish sometime I could read Gawker's comments at work, but then I realize what a time-suck that would be. And, frankly, I'd rather read the comments at Alyssa Rosenberg's blog, but those are Facebook comments, which again I can't see.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

That's really cool, ita.

Seconded!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

I feel like I may have been to that church. Led a retreat, maybe? Dunno. Maybe it just looks like a lot of church complexes.

I think the fact that you've maintained a non-profit site for over a decade totally gives you web communities cred.

In my news, woes, I just found out the music festival that we go to every year will be closing after this year. Finances. And they've been in the hole for a lot of years, so you can see why, but I'm still very sad. It's been going since 1984.

I will very much miss my tribe of anarchists and punks and poets.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Ow ow ow OWWWWWW!

While trying to distract the ambient dogs around our office from a big box turtle a co-worker was relocating, I tripped in the midst of a full-tilt run and bellyflopped. Nothing seems to be broken, but I think I have bruised ribs as it now feels like my torso took the place of the punching bag Captain America was working in the Avengers trailer.
