I'm in the middle of a civil rights wasteland, but at least Arkansas is a little better than other southern states in that it allows same sex couples to adopt and has anti-harrassment laws in school. Also, regardless of the laws hospitals here actually do allow people other than spouses and children unlimited visitation, though I don't know how they handle medical decisions when the patients can't make them themselves.

msbelle, I'm sorry if my link to Jenn's article upset you. Please know I did not mean to cause anyone distress, esp. someone who is dealing with so much at this particular point in time. Jenn is a good friend (she was in my wedding) and I was only proud of her.
