I would just like to say for the record that part of my goals for this last trip was to talk to the movers and shakers in my particular denomination about the way Christians are being perceived in the mainstream world and to suggest some ways we can reconcile that. I was a little pleasantly surprised that although there was some pushback, it was mostly minimal. Admittedly, the conference was on dealing with "deep change," technological, societal, etc., so they were more openminded going in than a normal crowd would be. I intend to follow up with a few email messages to make sure the specifics of what I was saying are clear to the leadership. But. I'm trying.

Natter 70: Hookers and Blow
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Good one, Liese. It's just so hard.
I'm pretty sure additional women were a key part of biblical marriage.
this. also sanctioned concubines. also the sex with anyone if your wife was not producing the children.
Liese is a warrior, pass it on.
Oh, and in minor "I didn't respond to this while I was away" news, I think the pots & pans mail dream is highly funny, particularly because the US mail system does not come to my house in any form. There is a tiny local post office, but it doesn't deliver, only has boxes, and it's manned by a little old lady who sits in a booth. So it's not too far off.
She also runs the honor system library in the community room next door, where we vote, so I spend all my voting line time browsing the books. The honor system is so funny because you take a book, bring it back when you want, or bring back a different one if you liked the one you borrowed. There's no recordkeeping at all. My neighborhood.
Also! My eyebrow has finally stopped twitching. I dunno if it was the magnesium or getting through the worst of this last time or what, but I'm glad to have passed it on through the internets. (Sorry, Dana.)
I'm reading the Giants post-game thread from last night after a desultory loss.
To cheer themselves up they've started posting animated gifs of Corgis doing adorable Corgi things.
It's very cheering! Corgis trotting together on treadmills! Corgis's getting So EXCITED about dinner! Corgis lolling on their back as they get their belly fur vacuumed.
To sum up: Corgis!
Bomb Disposal Robot is Ring Bearer
The bride is a mechanical engineer who helped design the Dragon Runner unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). So when Laura got married, it was only appropriate for the little robot to take part. As the ring bearer! The Dragon Runner wore a tiny tuxedo and carried the ring in while the song “Mr. Roboto” played. A grand time was had by all. You can see a video about the robot (but not the wedding) at Electronic Design.
Then there's the guy who forged a wedding ring by hand... from a meteorite!

That was impressive. Made me think of Sokka's Space Sword.
ION, I spilled BBQ sauce on my shirt.
