msbelle, I am so sorry that there is this much stress for you and poor Mac.
I know that 72 hour stay is par for the course, and in many child-oriented psych hospitals, often the parents/guardians are asked not to see the child for the first day, so that (in cases of abuse, which your case is SO NOT) the child can have some breathing room and the caregivers can try to get the story from the child without adult interference....but I haven't heard about an arbitrary no-visitors day.
And I second Matt's thoughts about how much of a wake-up call staying in a psych ward can be. You may recall my 72 hours in one in 2001, and the lack of freedom was horrifying, even though I knew the reasons I was under observation, and had the intelligence to get out, get out GET OUT.
One of my best friends is an art therapist for troubled youth -- she's in MO, but I could ask her if she knows anyone in your area, if you like. She has lots of contacts. (I wish you lived closer, because she is fantastic.)

In rage making news, Em's middle school has two language arts teachers retiring at the end of the year. Surely, they are dealing with this by hiring two more language arts teachers you'd think. Well you'd be wrong, because they are cutting 8th grade honors LA and going from two hours of 8th grade regular LA to one hour. Since Em is in 7th grade honors LA, that means she'd be stuck covering the same material in 8th grade as she is now. Grrrrr....
Also, getting the title for my new car has been a massive PITA. The dealer finally got it at the beginning of the wekk, but they need to retitle in Kansas before they can get it to me, only the entire Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles is shut down until at least Tuesday.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
Crock Pot Chicken Tagine last night was huge win. Found out from friend during dinner (the one who just discovered she has endometrial cancer)that she DOES NOT HAVE INSURANCE. This is very worrying, although she seems quite sanguine about it.
