I wish I could find where I read about this, but apparently there's a pocket of people (must be tiny tiny people) in North Carolina who have the same accent as Shakespeare.
Also on some islands in the Chesapeake Bay. The populations were so sheltered for so long they held on to the accents their ancestors came over from England with back in the 1600s.
I am very proud of myself. I am basically packed for a trip to Chicago/Michigan and I'm not leaving until Thursday afternoon! I'm just not going to have a chance to pack tomorrow and I had time tonight so I did it. Just like a citizen!
You are an inspiration, Lisa.
How very odd. United Airlines reservation service just called my cell phone to tell me that flight 888 from Beijing to San Francisco for tomorrow will leave on schedule.
edit: I hope I'm not about to be embroiled in some spy thriller, I've got stuff to do.

I have also heard this about parts of Newfoundland.
I almost made it to the pool, but then realized I was wheezy and that it just wouldn't end well. I'm disappointed in myself, but also think it was probably a safe call to make, given a quick run to the bank left me shaky.
Meh.

Henna "crowns" for chemotherapy patients
Samaritan Magazine has a fun article here about Henna Heals, a charity based in Toronto, Canada that offers a free service to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy: beautiful henna designs applied to their chemo-bald heads. The organization was created by photographer Frances Darwin, who also captures the resulting designs in photos. Snip:
The swirling, intricate drawings, which are safe, temporary and applied by skilled artists, command the eye to the head of the henna wearer, inspiring awe rather than pity while offering an alternative to wigs or hats. Perhaps more importantly, these henna "crowns" offer women suffering hair loss -- and the accompanying lost sense of femininity that brings -- a chance to feel uniquely lovely while inviting gentle dialog about a tricky subject.

I know!!!
sara, give yourself a chance to recuperate. Travel is hard on a body.
I, OTOH, am not an inspiration. I bought a jumbo box of Red Hots at the dollar store earlier, and busted into it. And now may finish it. Edit: I mean, Hot Tamales.
