All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Gah, banks! You suck!

I had a home equity line of credit with my bank, which I was paying off, and last fall I had a bank manager make the HELOC show up on my banking dashboard along with my savings, checking, and credit card accounts. That way I could pay it off by doing a direct transfer rather than setting up bill-pay, which takes longer.

Easy-peasy, right? I sent the final payment in March, this week I got a check for some kind of refund, and then today?

Today I got a dunning letter claiming that the account is past due and they're calling in a collection agency. Somehow the switch over to direct transfer hasn't been recorded and they think I haven't made any payments since last fall.

ARGH.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

and because most of what I have to say when I do have time is the kind of stuff other people are mostly posting on Twitter, so I feel like maybe I shouldn't.

No no, you should post it, especially for people like me who aren't on Twitter.

And Suela, that is so fucking galling. It's like the banks are working their hardest to find new and innovative ways to fuck us over.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

It's like the banks are working their hardest to find new and innovative ways to fuck us over.

Laura's experience suggests this is true.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Hey Zeus, Suela. The direct transfers must have gone through or you wouldn't have gotten the refund, right? I'm utterly disgusted with banks. So far I'm very happy with my decision to move everything to a credit union.

I can't check the board or post during that day generally, so I end up doing a lot of skimming at night and often feel like I'm too late for a conversation

This is where meara-ing came in! Back in the day when I wasn't allowed to be on borg during the day, and I'd come home and catch up on hundreds of posts...

The direct transfers must have gone through or you wouldn't have gotten the refund, right?

This was my thought--surely you would've noticed if the money wasn't actually getting paid out of your account, and wasn't disappearing into the ether, right?? Good luck.

Why am I not in bed? Oh, right, I started talking about Jeremy Renner and the power of his ass compelled me to look at it.

Something I posted on Twitter the other day: according to my Fitbit, I've walked over 2,010 miles since I started using it.

Oh, it makes no sense at all: the direct transfers were totally going through, but something in the book-keeping seems to have broken down. As if they weren't registering because they didn't come in the front door via check or electronic bill-pay (rather than direct transfer). Nobody seems to have checked the actual account.

I shall have a pleasant conversation tomorrow, let me tell you. Especially since they've probably screwed my credit rating. ARGH.

ION, rock on, shrift! That's awesome!
