I don't even understand what the strategic value of attacking birth control is.
I think they tried to frame it as a religious issue, e.g. “See how horrible Obamacare is? It’s forcing churches to go against their religion!”
It kind of spun out of control from there. Limbaugh and a bunch of other people had trouble staying on message.
First of all, how can you be opposed to that? Especially if you're anti-abortion.
Honestly? If women are forced into Duggar-hood, having double-digit babies until their uteruses fall out, and then caring for their 15 kids, then those uppity bitches won't have time to cause trouble by demanding equality and jobs.
Second of all, how is that going to win elections?
I think they're grossly overestimating the wingnut vote. Or they forgot that we uppity bitches are still allowed to vote.
First of all, how can you be opposed to that? Especially if you're anti-abortion.
If you're anti-abortion because you don't want those sluts to get away with having sex without being punished (i.e., babies = wrath of God), then it's a perfectly logical position.
ETA: See also, "opposition to HPV vaccine."
Did anyone see the footage of Dan Savage critiquing the biblical basis for homophobia at a student journalism conference? He had some great points, but a bunch of the students had pre-arranged to walk out as soon as he mentioned the Bible.
Do not read the comments on that article!
I am pretty sure we should all get shirts that say "Uppity Bitch" - men and women alike.
I have been productive thus far this morning, 3 things off my work to do this, plus some ridic scheduling nonsense NOT on my to-do list. Then personal bill paying.
I would really really like to get something accomplished before a 2pm meeting, but I am not sure I can complete more than finding a file. It's been something I've needed to do for over a month, but no one to hekp me along. It's finding and figuring out someone else's use of an action matrix from management meetings.
Isn't that the standard advice? (Never read the comments)
It is, but I often ignore it!
I think the trouble started with two things. One was the Reagan years where Reagan would run on and support policy with complete bullshit stories, and it worked brilliantly. I think there was a shift in supporting policy with narrative instead of fact.
The other related thing was the rise of right-wing media. Now we have right-wingers disagreeing not on just policy but also on reality. How do you achieve compromise when you have two sides not even working with the same reality?
