All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Will it fit in your oven?

It should.

Nice. Would you believe I've never carved a pumpkin?

You can always just roast it whole if you want to. I find trying to cut raw pumpkin really difficult.

But carving sounds fun!

Now tagless for your comfort.

It's surprisingly easy.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Unrelatedly, I DEEPLY resent seeing both political ads AND Christmas commercials. I'd like to get through politician-buying season before I start buying Christmas presents.

For the Koch brothers, the two are synonymous.

That sounds really great, Matt! And, yeah, jacuzzis are better when they aren't spinning...

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Here it is, Cass: [link]

That was totally fascinating. I got a little caught up in wondering what it would mean overall because the ages of people this seemed to work best for was fairly young but kids grow up. And quickly. I wonder if it works best for younger people because of a combination of brain plasticity and still being open to new things without having to stop and try to reconcile them culturally. Anyway, that was really cool to read. Thanks for the link.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

No problem, Cass. I think it's fascinating. I have no idea what language the computer was configured for (I probably skimmed past it), but once they're on the web, they're probably dealing with a fair amount of English, and most any parent with an iPhone or Touch or any kind of tablet can see how much reading isn't as required as we think it is--I can basically use my sister's phone and tablet in Spanish, and I studied freaking Spanish. But even though I immerse myself in this shit, I'm still dependent on literacy to get me what I want.

English! They gave a Hindi interface and the kids went right around it. Which isn't my saying, "Yay English" so much as "Yay the language doesn't seem to matter" so kids can easily maneuver computer interfaces and the Internet.

So I forget if I've shared my good news: by virtue of persistence (I assume) and new meds (yay benzodiazepines), my mother has agreed explicitly to move to the new assisted living facility. So, yay.

Of course, we have to get them there, and get them settled, and get rid of their old furniture, and sell the condo, but one thing at a time.

My two older brothers are both flying in for Thanksgiving, which will make things much easier I hope.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Most of the language configurations I've used have been a bit shy of complete, and there are always keyboard to screen issues--if you give someone a Hindi keyboard, how do you start using English features?

Okay--I have two things to say about CW shows right now: Mr. Arrow? That's not actually a costume. Green Lantern could give you tips on hiding from people that have seen you, ah, intimately. And: Kids of Mystic Falls? Those are not morals. Or ethics, maybe. There are not enough good ideas on this show for them to graduate to Stargate. Well, or brains either.
