Library trips is a fantastic idea. Magazines are good if she's either in discomfort or an easily distractible / public area and can't concentrate on a full book.
On the other hand, if she's single, she might not want to look at large quantities of food.
Oh, and easy. Microwavable or shelf stable or just long lasting. Individual portions too.

ION, I think my mother is perhaps more petty than I. She hasn't talked to her brother in months because he said something that pissed her off. His husband, thankfully back from a longish trip to China, is now brokering peace.
Objectively, it wasn't a huge insult but her feelings were hurt and she is just not the type to forgive. Forget, yes. Forgive, no. Like me!!!!!
