Is another one The Anubis Gate? I feel like you recommended that to me -- I really liked it -- and I don't know if it was w/r/t steampunk, or something else.

Okay, because I somehow connected it with steampunk, and then couldn't figure out what it was about the book that was steampunk-y. Got it. And it was awesome. The ending was one of those make-me-clap-my-hands-with-glee endings.

I have not, but I am marking your post, because I need something new to read after the library gives me Libba Bray's new book. (I read the HUGE sample from Amazon, and even though it creeps me out, I need to find out what happens.)

but the imperialistic/colonialist stuff is kinda twisted in the steampunk oevre isn't it.

That's basically what's going on in the Temeraire series, except with dragons instead of steampunk tech.
