And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

That's a thing people are doing?

It's a thing I'm doing. It's one of my favorite books, and I can't think of any two people less likely to be in my mental fantasy casting session than Tom Hanks or Halle Berry. But since I trust the directors, I'm trying not to let it worry me.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

JZ,

while I have not read the 200 page document, I read the serious journalism about it when the document was first dropped (I want to say back in April or May). It is at issue of course because supposedly the Obama administration decided their campaign strategy was not to go after Romney for his flip flops, but that he had other weaknesses they could more easily exploit.

I think they thought that the flip flop characterization might play into a narrative - beneficial to Romney - that he is a moderate. When of course he is nothing of the sort.

I am wondering what their final 4 week strategy will be.

Both campaigns have got to be reaching the point of diminishing returns with tv ads. I lived in a battleground state 4 years ago and the tv ads were an absolute nightmare. I cannot imagine any ads for Romney or Obama will make a difference now.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I LOVE Kai Ryssdal.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

omg what a bitch.

People, if you have an argument and someone honestly apologizes for getting short with you (and honestly, she was totally giving me a bullshit runaround), your answer is not, "Well don't be like that because you're never going to have any success in life if you're mean to people." And then another couple of sentences.

That is not a gracious acceptance of an apology! That is being a condescending bitch.

Also, she totally gave me the runaround, and wouldn't answer any of my questions, and then tried to act like I was being the unreasonable one.

Dude. Don't they know better than to piss you off? You'd think.

Also love me some Kai Ryssdal. Though I must say, the thing about NPR people that throws me more than not knowing their faces even though I recognize their voices, is that I have NO idea how to spell any of their names. And some aren't surprising, but there's a few that I'm like "Wait, what?"

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

And some aren't surprising, but there's a few that I'm like "Wait, what?"

Yeah. A lot of the time, I just haven't thought about what that sound would look like, written down -- like John Ydstie, say.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

I actually just looked up how to spell Kai Ryssdal's name last week, mostly because I was curious to know what he looked like. (The answer is: pretty similar to what I expected, yet somehow totally different. I didn't think I had an actual mental image of his face until I saw his real face and thought, That's not him!)

I think I could recognize Steve Innskeep, Renee Montagne, Robert Siegel, and Melissa Block by their voices. And Kai Ryssdal, and Click & Clack, of course. And Ira Glass and Terri Gross, but those are a given. Edited to spell Renee Montagne's name right!
