And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I think if you really dislike Tom Hanks, you might not like Cloud Atlas. For me, I loved the book and am a big fan of the Wachowskis, so I'm willing to forego premature judgment of the questionable casting choices until I've seen it.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I don't feel it's premature to conclude he's in it, unless there's a really devious plan they've got up their sleeves. Is there something you gleaned from advance viewing that you can share? It's a robot? It's JGL playing a young Tom Hanks? Amanda Byne in drag?

It's true--this might finally be the one movie where he's not Tom Hanks and I get caught up in his great performance and taken where the directors and all the cast and crew intend me to go, but I'm not willing to gamble ticket prices on it, and awkwardness of leaving the theatre in the middle of the flick. That's a waste of money, and rude to people who're enjoying themselves.

I think it's premature to conclude he's been miscast until I see the performance. Ditto Halle Berry.

ita's reservations are mine - my understanding is that Tom Hanks is a great guy, and he's responsible for producing some projects I've really liked, but I don't think I've enjoyed an onscreen performance of his since Philadelphia.

whee - a meeting needs lunch ordered today - so lunch for me, YAY. I need to leave at 3 today to go with mac to get sized/whatevered for a new shoe insert that is replacing his brace. He refuses to go with just McPhee. I emailed my big boss, who is in Belgium at the moment, and cc'd 3 of my other bosses, one of whom is also in Belgium. My other 2 bosses are on vacation. It should be a no brainer, right? I leave one day early, but still have my 40 hours in for the week.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

new shoe insert that is replacing his brace

Wow, that's great!

Will anyone even notice you're gone? I mean, it's night time in Belgium by 3pm central, right?

right - he wouldn't know unless someone was looking for me. There are a few people who tend to run to a boss if they look for an admin and don't find them.

That's a thing people are doing? I haven't been reading much of the coverage, so I'm out of all the cloud-related loops.

It's a thing I'm doing. It's one of my favorite books, and I can't think of any two people less likely to be in my mental fantasy casting session than Tom Hanks or Halle Berry. But since I trust the directors, I'm trying not to let it worry me.
