Well, we may not have parted on the best of terms. I realize certain words were exchanged. Also, certain... bullets. But that's air through the engine. It's past. We're business people.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

My kids were the opposite of that. #1 didn't sleep more than 2 hours at a time until we Ferberized him at 10 months.

I read that first as "#1 didn't sleep more than 2 hours at a time until we Febrezed him at 10 months."

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

No shit. I suppose it is possible that both things are random. But I don't believe it.

Yeah, how does stuff break if no one's using it?

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Yeah, how does stuff break if no one's using it?

The furnace thermostat was set at cool for 75 degrees or something like that. September was pretty mild so I am not sure the A/C came on much (judging by my energy bills). So I am not sure at what point it was busted. Supposedly the realtor has had open houses and the prospective owner just saw the house 2 weeks ago and no one mentioned a temp problem.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

I think babies are a lot like immigrating to a new country or a third piece of pie -- theoretically they seem like a good idea, but the reality is never as pleasant as the idea.

My fit having today has led to better living (YAY!) in the form of less grading. Tomorrow I have 3 periods of in class essays (which, is more grading, but less dedication to its completion) and one period of teaching "My Papa's Waltz" and Reader Response Theory.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I read that first as "#1 didn't sleep more than 2 hours at a time until we Febrezed him at 10 months."

I was so sleep deprived at that point that if someone had suggested Febreeze, I totally would have tried it.

You guys, my mother just told me a great thing. My father doesn't read any more, but my mother still wants to sit and read sometimes, and finds him to be a pain during those times. But she remembered that he's gotten into looking at art at his various programs, and pulled out an art book they have, and he was totally into it! For 20 minutes! So that's good.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

until we Ferberized him at 10 months

I read that as Febreezed too! What is Ferberizing? I'm trying to imagine and can't.

I think Ferber is a doctor who came up with a technique for getting babies into a regular sleep pattern. We did something similar with Ryan, following a book called Save Our Sleep. (Key similarity: put the baby in bed while he or she is still awake, and - to some extent at least - if they get upset, let them cry it out, with the goal of helping the baby learn how to soothe themselves instead of relying on their parents to do so.)

Jesse - is 20 minutes about the extent of his focus now?
