I would love to find someone who shares my love of baseball. though that would hopefully just be one piece of the bigger picture. But if they didn't, it wouldn't be a dealbreaker (as long as they could handle my sometimes manic fannishness).

I found that I only needed a passing knowledge of the Red Sox (and the AL East) for small talk purposes in the Boston area.
I find the same thing to be true WRT the Saints down here. But it's easier to avoid specific, just say who dat and Drew Brees and you're good.

When people ask me what football team I like, I say I'm a fair-weather fan and root for either the Bears or Packers, depending on how they're doing.
Sometimes these people give me a suspicious look.
