Inara: So, explain to me again why Zoe wasn't in the dress? Mal: Tactics, woman. Needed her in the back. 'Sides, those soft cotton dresses feel kinda nice. It's the whole... air-flow.

I find that asking "...what sport is that?" whenever a team name is mentioned gets me out of most sports-related conversations.

Heh.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I just have to come in to say I got to wave at the President's motorcade as it passed my building on the way to a rally here in Madison.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

But it's easier to avoid specific, just say who dat and Drew Brees and you're good.

Once "Nomaaaaaaah!" wasn't good enough anymore, I was out of luck. I mean, me and the Sox both, am I right?? (I have no idea if I am right.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Pretty much anyone I spend time with shares some interests with me and also has some interests I don't share (and ditto the other way).

Pfft, you and your legendary equanimity.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Random question of the day--does anyone have any suggestions of good online places for buying jewelry, especially necklaces?

I decided the other day that I am bored with my necklaces, but most of the ones I am finding online are too expensive, or ugly, or boring, or whatever.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

good online places for buying jewelry, especially necklaces?

  • ETSY--as long as you have a search term
  • uncommon goods
  • Wisteria

I think that accounts for 60-70% of my necklaces, and I have necklaces like some people have earrings.

I used to do Overstock too, but not recently.

But, you know, it probably wouldn't work out with someone who was obsessed with baseball, given how much of it there is. Like it wouldn't work out with someone who didn't like TV.

Dunno, Lee. I have had some good luck at Cost Plus World Market, myself. But I've never bought a necklace online--oh, wait, I did, and it turned out to be really not what I was expecting, and rather difficult to put together with an outfit.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I have had good luck with Overstock, but it's hit or miss so it takes a few visits.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I need somebody to break it down much more simply.

I think one key to understanding baseball is listening to it on the radio. On the radio, the announcers have to explain everything that happens. On television, the announcers tend to say "what a great play" without describing it to those of us who looked down for a minute and missed it. If it's the Fox announcers, they'll keep talking about something completely irrelevant and not announce the play at all.

I'd like to go on record before it has a chance of sounding like sour grapes: this new wild card scheme sucks. Because they're playing two games on Friday, the Braves start at 5 p.m., which means that the outfielders will spend a good deal of the game staring straight into the sun.
