So, my "letter of application" for a job was FIVE single-spaced pages. I included my resume (CV) in addition.
I think it best that I don't respond to the length of cover letter question.

I think I'm going to have to agree with him here. "American," when it's used to include mac and cheese but not include tacos or knishes, is an ethnicity. It's not necessarily an ethnicity in the sense that you can say that specific people are part of it and other people aren't, but it's definitely a culture in the sense of having food, music, social norms, and so on.
Mike Rowe worked as a chick sexer on his show once...he thought it was funnier than the boss did.
All other things being equal, "chick sexer" looks way better on a business card.

I think maybe I don't understand the difference between ethnicity and nationality, then. I thought ethnicity was more than just shared geographical boundaries. And not all people who live in the US have a shared cultural and ancestral heritage of Kraft dinner.
