Is short-term disability an option? I mean, yes a couple of months to recover seems like a lot of time, but you might not be in the ER over fifty times a year and be able to have more of the life you want instead of dealing with constant nearly intolerable pain. I mean, if it works. I don't know what kind of downtime the trial requires but... if it works?

(Rhetoric again not in the insulting sense of empty talk, but Rhetoric in the classical sense of understanding the difference between a spoken and a written argument. Also not wanting to be all up in your business, but just for a data point, I took short-term disability when I had foot surgery, and while the pay cut was a bummer, it worked out much better than trying to work when I couldn't walk.
