See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

For Typo and other thinky Buffistas: The Atlantic's Molly Ball and James Fallows both have pieces up studying Clinton's speech last night and all the factors, personally like him or not, that make him so incredibly effective as a public speaker.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

make sure you check with management and with the docs

They're already accommodating my disabled ass. And during that conversation there was enough "if you still meet the requirements of your job description..." that I don't want to mess it. I mean, they're not going to pony up for another computer, and that's the only plausible workaround. They'll tell me, like they did before, to take short term disability.

the laptop on a rigid belt around ita's waist. there will be slides

You remember that I have a battery in my ass?

Wow--I just told my boss some bad news, and when we were done he said "And what's the bad news?" My manager and I were all..."Uh, I guess there's none then?"

One of the villa people for my sister's birthday didn't order the shirt through cafepress, because she was broke. She had something made up locally. Now, I ain't mad at her for being broke. I'm not really mad at her for avoiding a scenario where people paid for her shirt (although I would have, and at least half of us would have contributed), but I am irritated that she clearly isn't using a high-res version of my design (fancy as it is...). I don't want her in a "close enough" shirt.

Dana, why does Kevin James do anything? And isn't it sad if only Adam Sandler will be his friend?

Also, surely Courier has something better he could be doing? Maybe his navel needs de-linting? At least he could check.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Also, surely Courier has something better he could be doing?

Every time I see him, I think the something better he could be doing is wiping off the body paint and riding off on his dragon to save Pandora.

Uh oh. I complained to Dreamhost that my provocateuse sites have been broken since they moved it to a new server, and they find it "hard to believe". It's been a while since I reviewed site longs--anyone know of a good one for the Mac?

I'm kinda nervous, because:

In looking deeper into this issue, it looks like today alone the total number of hits for your sites in your account is over 1.2 Million hits

I haven't checked my Google Adsense payout recently, but I am pretty sure that is not coming through legitimately. I might have to make sure I'm blocking hotlinking properly.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

They'll tell me, like they did before, to take short term disability.

Is short-term disability an option? I mean, yes a couple of months to recover seems like a lot of time, but you might not be in the ER over fifty times a year and be able to have more of the life you want instead of dealing with constant nearly intolerable pain. I mean, if it works. I don't know what kind of downtime the trial requires but... if it works?

You remember that I have a battery in my ass?

I've read worse in fanfic. You could have a baby in there.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

JZ thanks those are good analysis. And classic rhetorical techniques. (Rhetoric again not in the insulting sense of empty talk, but Rhetoric in the classical sense of understanding the difference between a spoken and a written argument. Mind you a lot of written communication can be improved by these techniques.)

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I suggest incorrect capitalization to solve the confusion. rhetoric and Rhetoric.

They'll tell me, like they did before, to take short term disability.

Also not wanting to be all up in your business, but just for a data point, I took short-term disability when I had foot surgery, and while the pay cut was a bummer, it worked out much better than trying to work when I couldn't walk.

Good grief, the convention has reduced me to tears twice already and they're barely begun the evening's shenanigans.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

So just listening to Kerry - it is a powerful, emotionally speech with inflection. As soon as I look at him it seems flat. sad for him.

sarameg - Sep 06, 2012 4:38:19 pm PDT #21236 of 30001

STD anecdata: my boss had to go on it for almost 3 months after spinal surgery at basically the worst time for her professionally. She had just started as my interim boss, to become actual boss when my current boss burned the last of his vacation and officially retired. It was also the start of the Servicing Mission. She was going to be flat on her back for a month or two, unable to really even check in.

She wanted to postpone it. Even though she was waking up with breakthrough pain in the middle of the night on narcotics. But the mission head and the team were all very supportive of her going ahead with it. It was a little chaotic, and some things did get screwed up, but not irreparably. We made it work. It didn't seem fair to ask her to wait when work COULD be handled without her.
