It's good to have cargo. Makes us a target for every other scavenger out there, though, but sometimes that's fun too.

I also love how much roller derby is out there now.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

There's a roller derby team near the RTPistas, too: [link]

And the Chapel Hill-Durham area has some nice lefty-liberal aspects.

Because books.

Sara told us at dinner that her teacher this year does roller derby, and the music teacher used to do it with her.

I'm so sorry about DH's job, Cash.

And I'm sorry about your coworker, Consuela. That's awful.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Roller derby is one of those things that looks like so much fucking fun, that I would enjoy the shit out of, even if I sucked--but I know I'd suck, for anything skatelike is no good for me. So I'm very jealous of you.

Man, last week I sent out this email that I thought did an exquisite job of explaining something, and nobody understood me. After the meeting, I summed myself up in a slide deck with pictures (never even got to give the presentation--just emailed it out to the people I'd spoken to) and lo and behold! Cleanest crispest explanation I could have given. Boss is pleased enough with it to call it out.

This is now three for three when it comes to presentations. Whatever is different about them is what I'm good at--pictures? Pros and cons? Agendas/tables of content? Summaries? I have no fucking clue. But I'm about to ditch email bodies and communicate solely in Powerpoint from now on. It's pissing me off that I'm failing in emails, though.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Roller derby looks like a ton of fun, but I'm pretty much certain that it would get a "hell no" from every one of my doctors and physical therapists. (And really, I know better that to risk something like that. But still, looks like fun.)

Now tagless for your comfort.

Derby is, hands down, the most fun thing I have ever done. It takes a lot of physical effort but the emotional payoff is amazing.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Holy shit Gwen Stefani looks awesome.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

Whatever is different about them is what I'm good at--pictures?

I don't think it is you. Some people have trained themselves to ignore words and need pictures. Personally I do better with words most of the time, but I've learned that a lot of people can't or won't pay attention to words. Part of it is learning style, but part of it is that I get the feeling that some people have trained themselves just to extract key words and not read the sentences.
