You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

What do British people say instead?

Chumblynuts.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Training session went well. I texted her from the parking lot and said I was scared to come in the gym, so she came and got me and introduced me to everybody and it was fine.

Not that I'll have to be at the gym a lot because she's giving me stuff I can do at home. And I have to meet her again tomorrow (at Starbucks!) to talk about nutrition. Which seems completely perverse, but hey!

Anyway. I didn't die. I have sore muscles. I don't feel terrified about it anymore. So I guess that's good?

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

meara,

I think you need to go to Puerta Vallarta instead.

Or: San Diego.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

"In event of moon disaster"--that's a very evocative title.

le nubian, I should stay right where I am--Honolulu!

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Not being afraid of the gym is always nice. So the gas went out yesterday at our gym. And I just thought, oh. No hot water, okay. But it didn't occur to me that the pools are heated by this gas. OOPS. They got it back on before Noah's lessons, but the water was still cold in the pool. Like 74. Poor little guy.

My parents are in town so he is EXCITED and Grace was EXCITED. My mom put temp tattoos on them before bath time. Grace REFUSED to get in the water until I covered hers with bag so as not to ruin it.

Sigh.

Thanks for the nice comments on the article. I gabbed the author's ear off about medical stuff. Very therapeutic. When she asked why I was okay standing up to doctors, I realized it was twofold. The experience at CHLA was so bad it knocked docs off pedestals for me and I don't think they can answer why most things are happening or what really to do about it. Just in the Buffista world, think of how many times they have difficulty in diagnosing what the hell is going on?

Anyhow, the pic reminds me I should brush my hair more.

Punishingly Intricate

So sorry for your loss, Jilli.

Thanks for your help earlier today, Jesse. I have been working stupid hours and it's been making me dumber and dumber. Tonight I was there until after 10. BUT the stupid 600-page thing is finished (until they start finding problems and want to make changes). And, I can't really complain, I can get OT on this contract and I can take some of these millions of hours as comp time. SO I think I'm going to take Friday off.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, honestly, vicariously? I have learned to be willing to stand up to doctors. We needed to advocate strongly for my grandmother when she was in the hospital, and there are some places where I have regrets even there.

But I think the big lesson for me is that medicine is such an inexact art. I am willing to assume that the medical profession has training and education and experience that I lack, but I am also willing to assert that I inhabit my body, which they don't.

Good for you, lisah.

Oh, and also, my bank didn't call until 4:45 today. They scheduled for Wednesday, so there are reasonable odds that I might actually have the office done to my satisfaction before they show up.
