Consuela, you may have to get large, professional people to install her in care against her will. They will tend to her needs and make sure she doesn't hurt herself, which is in itself a huge relief, let alone the attrition the tension is taking on the rest of you. If her judgment is impaired, it becomes another competent adult's responsibility to see she's safely cared for.
I know I sound harsh, but I will always regret the additional years of having my mom in a safe facility, surrounded by trained professionals, and not having our personal at-home care for her touch and harm much daily pleasure and energy from family members and our interactions with each other. When she could not pitch tantrums and manipulate her caregivers, she settled in and was much happier herself.
ETA: I'm glad it was nothing serious--and that you avoided tunnel time.

I must have missed the episode of
Deep Space Nine
where Odo died for our sins.
Consuela, I have to add my voice to those saying do not try to take care of her yourself. My sister tried to care for our mom in her home and it was awful for her and not good for my mom.

bt, hee hee hee
What all the other people said. My parents are really clear that they don't want or expect us to take on the primary caregiving. They had tastes of it, and don't want any of us in that situation. OTOH, I think if and when the time comes, they may have to wrestle my SIL to the floor to convince her not to take them on (we ALL look at her as if she's crazy. ) Compromise is if they need to move into a care facility, it's probably going to be whereever she and Josh are. But it gives me comfort that I have senior independent living apartments and a [link] Greenhouse assisted living facility a 5 minute walk from me.
ION, I HAVE TICKETS TO AUSTRALIA!!! It's nuts. We're flying DFW->Brisbane-> Cairns, then Cairns->Brisbane->Sydney->DFW. Ooof.
That is SO EXCITING sarameg!
Whoa, Australia! That's so cool sarameg!
Australia! SO COOL. Someday I'm going there, I swear.
I'll be gone about 2 weeks, but with the dateline and freaking 23ish hours of flying each way, it ends up to be about 11 days in Australia. And I'm hoping to tack on the weekend before in DFW visiting certain FRIENDS... (check your email, msbelle!)
23 hours flying with my parents, SIL and nephews. Thank god it is Qantas. They don't make you pay for booze on Qantas, do they???
