So there is something I can do, besides scream like a woman?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Ugh, Pix.

lisah, that's so terrible. God.

I am back from the vet -- different story from a different vet, yet again -- and wish I could take a nap. I didn't get to bed last night until 1:30, and didn't sleep as late as I wanted to.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Oh god, lisah, that's awful. I'm so sorry.

Pix, yikes, here's hoping it's nothing serious! Are the bites very itchy? I had bedbugs once in a hostel in Melbourne, and they were insanely itchy -- like, as bad as poison ivy. So, um, if the itching isn't too bad, maybe it's not bedbugs? (Also, whoa, bedbug-finding dogs? Who knew such a thing existed??)

The status is NOT quo.

I'm horribly allergic to anything that bites, so I'm covered in itchy, scabby welts. ND doesn't have a mark on him. I also react like this to fleas, spiders, and sometimes even mosquitoes. Sigh.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Yuck, Pix. I hope it's just fleas or some critters easier to deal with.

"I hope you have fleas" is not something I ever imagined saying to a friend.

Ugh, so it already totally sucks even if it's not the worst-case scenario. So sorry!

Thanks. I'm pretty miserable. But now I have a plan. The local mattress store sells the protect a bed cover, so I'm going to start with that. Then I will enlist the help of the bug-sniffing dog. Mostly I will hope if it is bedbugs, they haven't spread yet.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Oh, poor Pix. I hope it's not bed bugs.

Because books.

Ugh, Pix, that's a drag. I hope it's easily taken care of.

My German copies of Cold Kiss came! It's called Deine Lippen so kalt in German, which seems like a lot of words for "cold kiss," but still, very cool. And very pink, oddly.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Not to freak you out, but that was exactly my situation when I had bedbugs. Itchy scabby welts. (Apparently only a tiny fraction of the population is allergic to bedbug bites. Sometimes I hate being such a special snowflake.)

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Condolences to Liese and lisah.

And sending vibes to Pix, hope it's easily dealt with, whatever it is. Hate bugs.

As for dealing with death, I had a student last year who was a novitiate in a Zen monastery and from what she says, the Zen Buddhists seem to have a good bead on death as simply a part of life and not to be mourned. She spoke of one monk laughing through his final breaths. I've watched a lot of loved ones go, and that seems like a pretty magical way to die.
