All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Who are the commentators?

I wanted to see the Queen's reaction during the house party at the end. The punk bit was kind of awesome.

Thrive to spite them

One Olympics the commentator for the gymantstics (possibly John Tesh, I'm not sure) kept using "histrionic" instead of "historic."

I only remember this because it sent Dad in near hysterics every time it happened.

I wish they would feel like it was okay to shut up during things.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera, on my TV.

It is confusing, mixing of the stuff that clearly had to have been filmed earlier and integrated, and the live stuff. It kinda diminishes the live stuff. I prefer an all live show. And of course, Beijing was just NUTS due to sheer size.

Same as Jesse. Remember that one year (and now I can't even remember if it way gymnastics or ice skating or Costas or the ice skater dude whose name I am also blanking-Scott?) who when watching a killer flub "And that was just...BAD." Yeah, thanks dude.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I hate commentators. Always have, every Olympics.

Obviously too young for Jim McKay.

I'm 37. But I wouldn't know a name unless I hated them, mostly.

Yeah, McKay was not so hate-able. He was the voice of ABC's Wide World of Sports and covered most of Olympics through the 70s, and was the guy covering the Munich Olympics when the Israeli athletes were murdered.

He was non-partisan, professional, easy on the ear, well-researched and had a genuine interest in all the events and competitors.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

And what the frak is going on now? This whole thing has been like a weird trip.

There were a few times I just looked at Tim and said "...England is WEIRD."

I really liked the "Fuck yeah, NHS!" part. Seriously. I mean, the nightmares part was creepy, but I just like celebrating their healthcare system.

Excellent Jim McKay tribute. You only have to watch a few minutes to get what he was about.
