Don't worry, I'm not gonna start any sword fights. I'm over that phase.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Y'all said () weren't brackets. Did you not mean to imply it was in any way wrong for me to call those brackets? It was somewhere on the continuum of neutral to correct?

Because books.

Here's what I should have said, I guess. You asked at some point if we couldn't call everything brackets and be done with it. And I was trying to explain that brackets and parentheses are two different things in the U.S. You can call them all whatever you want.

I adore all you motherfuckers so much -- PMM.

In my lexicon:

() are "round brackets" or "parentheses."

[] are "square brackets."

{} are "curly brackets" or "braces."

<> are "angle brackets" or "less than-greater than."

"brackets" without a qualifier is ambiguous between () and [].

I make absolutely no claims about my lexicon's applicability to the city, state, region, country, continent or planet on which I currently reside. Your mileage may vary; void where prohibited, standard disclaimers apply. This post is for entertainment purposes only, and does not constitute legal or medical advice.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

"brackets" without a qualifier is ambiguous between () and [].

Interesting- for me "brackets" without qualifier is semi ambigious between [] and {}.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

() are brackets, and [] are square brackets, and {} are curly brackets. Parentheses are too much trouble.

My boss left me on hold for twenty minutes from Minnesota. I can't lie, I made the "terribly busy" mime to one person I didn't want to speak to, but I ditched everything for another.

I'm not posting this in the fanfic thread, because it's not a discussion, it's just an opportunity to eyeroll: [link] But, then again, if you got the chance to monetize the "salacious" fanfic concept while pretending you just thought of it, who cares about...it's not even integrity at this point. Cash those fucking cheques and smile.

hip deep in pie

ita, I am pretty sure that calling () parentheses not brackets was something I had to learn in school. But my parents were Newfoundlanders and are all funny with their language.

In better news, I am super excited about Downton Abbey getting all the Emmy nominations! It's the only broadcast show nominated for Drama Series AND has at least one person in all of the acting categories!

I was excited too, even though I thought series 2 was a hot mess. Really mostly excited for Michelle Dockery, because I am always wowed by her acting.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Slowly working my way through a large number of Top Gear eps on my DVR.(They date back to last February.)

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

You guys! You know I sort of believe in signs, right? So I walked up to the vet's office to pick up Homer, and there was a BOX OF BOXES outside! And I took it! And walked the half-mile home with my cat and the boxes and now my arms are shakey.

I was excited too, even though I thought series 2 was a hot mess.

Absolutely.
