Our weather is continuing to be SURFACE OF THE SUN through the weekend, and we have to go to an all-day, all-outdoor family reunion (for Tim's family) Saturday. It's one of those everyone-related-to-the-great-great-great-grandmother dealies. They only have it every 4 years, since there are about 8 million people there. ALL OUTDOORS.*

Setting aside my hatred of large groups, my extreme awkwardness in large groups where I don't know anyone, and my fear of meeting yet more new family members and being found lacking/ugly/fat/horrible -- it's going to be a high of 100 Saturday. And this shit is outdoors. I don't do well in the heat. I have no idea how I'm going to get through Saturday.

(And Tim is not the type of person to go for an hour and then leave; he loves to be the very last person at any event we go to, because he is hugely afraid he'll miss something really awesome if he leaves.)

(And I also 100% understand that this dealie is only held every 4 years, and so there will be lots of people there he doesn't see often, and so of course he's going to want to spend hours and hours there. I don't begrudge him that. I'm just...pre-emptively looking up the location of the closest Urgent Care to the shindig.)

(I'm actually really stressed about it. I'm not kidding that I can't handle the heat AT ALL.)

*(Why ALL OUTDOORS? I don't know. Tim said that's just How They Always Do It. It's being held at the family compound -- I'm not kidding; it's a private drive, and all 3 of the houses on the drive belong to family members; it used to be the house of the great-great-great-grandmother.)

Ugh, Steph, that sounds like kind of a nightmare. Do you know any of the people who live on the drive? Maybe you can pre-arrange to go inside sometimes?

I don't know them. But unless they rent port-a-potties, I assume people will go inside to use the bathroom. So I will be needing to pee a lot. A LOT.

Surely there will be family members there with dodgy hearts or something who need to be snuggled up to the a/c, right? I can join them! (Or maybe they'll just be smart and stay home.)

I do want to meet Tim's extended-extended family; I just don't want to get heatstroke doing it. (And despite my love of hyperbolic hyperbole, I am actually worried that I'll get heatstroke. Bah.)

Poor Tep, I want to load you up with portable misting fans and parasols and a small tent to which you could repair for privacy and shade.

I can't imagine there won't be at least some people inside some of the time. And seriously -- go use the bathroom, hang out for a half-hour. (Not in the actual bathroom. Just in the house....)
