Can't any one of your damn little Scooby club at least try to remember that I hate you all?

And the 2nd floor threshold is leaking like hell. I threw a tarp up there and am literally soaked to the skin after 30 seconds. Thunder sounds like bombs going off and looks it too. Breakers flipping with power flickers have me running all over the place. Fuckit, I've put up the tarp, reset the breakers, bucket and towel where they need to be, I'm going out on the porch to smoke and watch the show.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I just took a look at the radar and a doozy is about to hit.

Crazy. Assed. Storm. It's not even raining here, but the wind is like nothing I've seen outside of a hurricane. Only without the hurricane. Freaky.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Man, the consultants on Person of Interest are not doing their jobs. It's some of the worst gunhandling I've seen in a long time.

They have the protagonist literally shoot from the hip, and not even in a "I'm so cool I don't need to line up to aim" way. Just a "hey, bullet coming now!" way. And the guy that plays the partner of the main cop--his form is just atrocious. Standing there, drawing a bead on the bad guys you're talking to--your elbows shouldn't be pointing outwards. And on your way out of the building you have your finger on the trigger and keep drawing the line of fire across your body parts.

The female cop is much better. She has her finger in a sensible position, and her stance is much more likely to stand up to recoil.

I like to think that as a viewing audience we've gained some knowledge about this stuff--and it's pretty much always going to make your characters look tougher, at least better than the gun akimbo stance. It's not a big deal to correct...people with good gun handling reflexes are cooler and sexier than the whole rest of the world. Trufax. I did a survey of the lurkers in email.

The wind here was INSANE. Irene wasn't this bad (just much, much more sustained.)

I still have leaking, it is just slower. Really need to fix that. Wind is so crazy it was driving rain into my skylight. Luckily, that drains into the tub.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

Isn't a teacup-grip, with the body positioned at a diagonal, to provide the least amount of target to shoot at, generally the accepted beginner shooting position, with a handgun at least?

That sideways, gangsta-shooting position always makes me scream at the screen, "DUMBASS! You don't shoot to look cool; you shoot to hit your friggin' TARGET!"

Testify.

The weather is insano. I went into the Japanese grocery store and it was 104. I shopped for maybe 40 minutes. Came outside, it was totally storming (and got my car a little wet because I had the windows down a bit) and 76. Dropped 30 degrees in a little more than a half an hour.

The SO is on his first pre-tour tour date. So, Dana, I understand your impulses. I told him specifically, I am not going to worry about what you have or don't have with you. You're on your own. But then I ran down the checklist before he left anyway. So apparently I can't give that up. But I seriously need to not treat it like he can't function without me. Sure he will forget things and likely leave clothing all over the midwest, but that is not on me to be concerned with.

brillig

Our local SWAT team got thrown out of a police shooting competition for doing that gangsta-shooting thing on the range. These are the guys I can outshoot up at the range in the mountains. I feel safe.

I hear (metaphorically) a lot of bitching that teacup is not good, even for beginners. It's been so long since my lessons that I couldn't tell you what those guys were recommending.

There are apparently better ways to brace for recoil and be nicely set up for your next shot.

I hope all of you people dealing with extreme weather.

Just back from the F2F BBQ. Noah is exhaustamapated and Grace is... well, trying to turn the TV on while she has her breathing treatment.

I took N&G and another 4 year old to the zoo this AM. Friday is field trip day for the local summer camps (of course). Lori came over with her kids and her sister so my two ran wild. The kids are exhausted and I am too.

I vow that tomorrow I will unpack 10 boxes.

So I'm thinking there's part of the story that I don't know...
