Quoting from SCOTUSblog: The money quote from the section on the mandate: Our precedent demonstrates that Congress had the power to impose the exaction in Section 5000A under the taxing power, and that Section 5000A need not be read to do more than impose a tax. This is sufficient to sustain it.

I didn't know I was holding my breath about SCOTUS on this issue until now.
SCOUTS summarizes bottom line as entire ACA upheld, only the Medicaid bit being torn up a little.
My boss's wife just called to tell him the whole thing was upheld. I'm kind of confused by the varying reports.
The NY Times is still parsing, but it sounds better than I had hoped.

CNN just corrected. "Correction: The Supreme Court backs all parts of President Obama’s signature health care law."
also, Hi everyone!
Decision was 5-4 on the mandate.
damn that was too close.
On my twitter feed they said the vote was 6-3
Here's why it is confusing: The Court holds that the mandate violates the Commerce Clause, but that doesn't matter b/c there are five votes for the mandate to be constitutional under the taxing power.
6-3 might be another vote on a different question (there were four).
