You could tell them no. My dad was the first person I knew who did that. They tried to raise the rent, and he refused. Of course, he was willing to move.
If the building isn't too popular, try negotiating. Can't hurt.
Interesting -- you're right that it can't hurt. I can't figure out their master plan here -- they are doing short-term furnished rentals, but I have no idea how successfully, and they could just kick me out entirely, due to the no-lease issue. Meh.

I got about halfway through the first row on the color test and decided I don't care how good my vision is. Also the colors look completely different depending on which monitor I'm using.

The Supreme Court is likely to hand down the health care decisions today (there are four; no one knows if they will write one opinion or four). SCOTUSblog will start live blogging from the court at 8:45, the court comes in at 10 a.m., and all the decisions will be announced (probably) by 10:30, and everyone seems to believe that the Chief Justice will write health care, so it will be announced last.
