Okay, so if you had a friend whose yahoo email was hacked, spewing two spam linky mails to the entire address list, even the dead people, in the two minutes before she discovered the issue and changed the password, would you appreciate a followup "sorry I got hacked" email, or let it be?

flea, I was just coming here to ask if you'd been hacked! Speaking just for me, I don't think a followup email would be necessary, but I did feel the need to make sure you knew you'd been hacked, so you might be fielding some emails from people wondering the same thing.

I sent out a "Sorry for all the REALLY inappropriate spam" email when I got hacked, but mine was also a couple of days before I figured out how to deal, so I felt VERY BAD.
