And a new fire this evening, on the other side of the valley from the previous one. it's gonna be a fun summer.

Liese, we used that last year for the Conchas fire in NM near my parents. It was a huge help. I actually had a FB friend send me a really detailed map. He works for FEMA or Northcom or something.
I work in the other direction now, but the fires recently seemed to not affect the city as much. When Simi Valley was on fire (yeah, when I went out and looked in two direction at burning horizon I just went home. That's not even a discussion I felt I needed to have with my boss.) the fires ran high hot and close enough that there was ash in West LA. And there were similar fires one of the last times my father came out here, but thankfully not so bad since.
Oof, Stephanie, hope things are okay.
I'm sitting on the front patio of our new place. I just watched the sky turn from mauve to pink to indigo. The weather is amazing. I could be drinking sparkling wine (which is what I did last night).
Any and all LAistas who want to come over and have some food and watch the sky with me tomorrow are welcome. The wifi, of course, reaches out here.
I won't even make you unpack boxes or build a bed.
The fires where we live now have been bad really bad the last couple of years. Was it last year that it almost burnt Tujunga down? One of the houses we offered on would have been a fire risk if the Verdugos burned. Which they do on occasion.
Wow. Was the wind angled away from Santa Monica? There wasn't any residue down here.

Sounds wonderful, Kat! Wishing you no fires ever.
As bad as the humidity is, I don't miss living in fire country. None of my childhood homes were ever in a position to be threatened (location and natural firebreaks and geography,) but it was damned spooky when the mountains glowed from the backside and the fireline crept over the summits.
Glad you are safe, Stephanie.
There will probably be a fire this year, but we are located on a piece of the valley slope between the San Gabriel Mountains and the Verdugo Mountains. LOTS of other places would have to burn including a major commercial core before it got to us.
The Station Fire, the last big one in this area, was so bad that we were able to see it clearly at our house in North Hollywood 13 or more miles away.
Hoping the fires get contained soon.
I'm so glad you are happy with the new house, Kat. Would love to come and visit. I mentioned I have clothes for you? Lots of cute clothes. I could have books too if you are interested in books for Noah and Grace but something tells me they have lots of books.
Cat is rubbing and marking like crazy, I think I need to respray that cat pheromone spray again.
