jewelry dangling out in the open = cat toys
Switch's worst habit (aside from random peeing, once in a heat vent, ugh) is getting up on my desk to attack the bulletin board above it. I had a cloth zombie from SA hanging there, and that got batted almost to shreds. He actually claws stuff off when he's really bored, usually at six in the morning when I would like to be asleep.
I want something like this for my jewelry: [link] Right now most everything is jammed into a jewelry box on my dresser.
Oooh, I need that. Actually, I probably need two of them, if I'm honest. I have a lot of jewelry, and I keep making more. (The perils of being slightly craft/DIY inclined.)

I had to switch around which stuffed animals live on which shelves, because there's one shelf that Vlad will not leave alone. And if there aren't critters for him to swipe off of it, he tries to pull the books out.
If you have a lot (a LOT) of silver pieces, enough that you can't wear each of them often, I can't recommend enough the itty clear ziploc bag for a pendant, or a pair of pendants that you switch off on a chain, plus that chain, or earrings plus pendant that match, and a tiny piece of tarnish-retardant paper in each bag. I have photo drawers; each drawer is a category: vintage earrings, quirky pendants, vintage pendants, charm bracelets, etc. I can't tell you how lovely it is to find the piece you want to wear, and not have to fricken polish it before you can wear it, every time.
Non-tarnishing pendants on cords go on the peg rack on the back of the door. And smaller, less-often worn pieces in store boxes (gold heirloom locket, gold earrings) are in the tin candy trunk boxes. A couple of saucers and trays on the dresser hold wooden, resin, beading, and glass pieces I wear often.
I have to take another look at my bedroom and see if I have the space for a wall solution. Since one side of the room is all closet and balcony door, it's tight. But I might be able to rearrange something, maybe.
The space on the walls by where everything is now is inaccessible, because that's a 5'+ lingerie...thingummy. Allyson would not be able to pick out earrings in my apartment.
Unrelatedly, here's an article about women and gaming [link] where I think the woman's behaviour opens itself up for useful criticism despite the assholes in the picture being the guys who work for the gaming companies. She paints herself as incredibly passive and run over by the sexist guys, but doesn't seem to me to step up in any way for herself.
She's not to blame for the circumstances she finds herself in, but it seems that every single guy ran over her the same way and she didn't try and do anything about it. I get that she might not have a snappy comeback the first, oh, couple times, but that's not what it's about. Does she only roll over if it's a guy blocking her story? Can she take control if it's a woman in her way? Does she even try?
There's no way I'm going to read the comments on the article, and you can take my frustration with the pricks she was dealing with as understood--I don't think I have anything to add to anyone's complaint about them.
But come on, man. Be a journalist. Show some stick-to-it-iveness. Alter the situation. *Try* to alter the situation. Oh, hell, just lie to make yourself seem like you have some gumption.
If that was my story, I wouldn't tell anyone, least of all kotaku. I'd be embarrassed to have represented myself that way repeatedly in a professional situation.
I keep making jewelry, but I very rarely wear jewelry. And I think it's too pretty to sell, because I always make it in my favorite colors. So it sits there, staring at me reproachfully.
Which may be OK, because I made it to please me, and when I wear the pieces no one else seems to care, so perhaps I'll treat it like art and leave it hanging where I can enjoy it.
Arrrgh, both the editor I'm working with and my Big Boss have ideas for a revamped product cover that they can't articulate to me other than it not being anything like the comps I've already made for them.
My solutions require walls: [link] and for necklaces, a rack with hooks and curlicues to hook on yet more danglies: [link]
Oh, man, those wire fleur de lis style hooks are beautiful. But a lot more wall than I have, dammit.
I think it was supposed to be a scarf hook or something. I found it in a hardware store. But it works well. Could you mount something on a door?
If you want tabletop stuff, maybe look for commercial-aimed jewelry display racks?
